The game everyone in the 7AA East has been waiting on has arrived. The
fifth ranked Bearden Bears
come to Dragon Stadium to take on the second ranked Junction City Dragons.
It will also be
Junction's homecoming this friday.
Bearden comes into the game with 4-1 record, 2-0 in conference. The Bears
only loss was to fourth
ranked Rison by six points. Junction City is unbeaten on the year with a
5-0 mark, 2-0 in
conference.
The Bears run the Pro I on offense. Ben Owens leads the Bears attack with
over 600 yards rushing.
Last friday against Norphlet, Owens rushed for three touchdowns and 273
yards rushing. He is
consider the best runningback in the conference. The Dragons will have
their hands full with Owens
according to head coach David Carpenter. " We have to be ready. No ands ifs
or buts. Owens will be
a handful to deal with."
On defense the Bears line up in the 50.
Junction City's defense continues to dominate. After a 61-0 win over
Sparkman, the Dragons total
amount of offense given up is 241 yards. The shutout against Sparkman was
the Dragons third of the
season. Give the credit to a defensive line that is wrecking the other
teams offense.
"Our defense is doing great," said Carpenter." When your defense is
shutting down people like ours
is doing, it makes things a lot easier. Your offense can take more chances,
because they know that
the defense is playing well enough to allow you to do that."
Offensively, Junction is averaging close to 400 yards a game. Brannin
Carter and Maurice Moore
continue to lead the way with a combine total of over 700 yards rushing.
Quarterback Drew McKinnon
has proven that the Dragons can air it out by tossing two more against
Sparkman. And the special
teams have either returned a kickoff or punt for a touchdown in the last
four games.
It would appear the Dragons are clicking on all cylinders at the
moment.
" We need to continue to take care of business. If we do that everything
else will take care of
its self."
Game time is set for 7:30.
